October 22, 2007 - Wellesley, MA -- Nearly one in five higher education students now takes at least one class online, according to a new study of more than 2,500 colleges and universities nationwide. The 2007 Sloan Survey of Online Learning, released today by the Babson Survey Research Group, reveals that online enrollment rose by nearly ten percent in fall 2006, to 3.49 million students. March 21, 2007 - MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- More college students are taking online courses at college and universities in the Midwest than ever before, according to a recent report published by the Sloan Consortium in partnership with the Midwestern Higher Education Compact. Over 460,000 students in MHEC's 11-member states took at least one online course in fall 2005, which represents a one-year growth rate of 35 percent, the same as observed nationally. More details…
March 12, 2007 - ATLANTA, GA -- More college students are taking online academic courses at institutions in the 16 member states of the Southern Regional Education Board than ever before, according to a recent report published by the Sloan Consortium in partnership with SREB. More than 1.1 million students were enrolled in online classes at two- and four-year colleges in SREB states in 2006, a 68 percent increase over the previous year — and nearly double the 35 percent national gain. March 5, 2007 - Needham, MA -- The Sloan Consortium's first ever survey of online learning in elementary and secondary education, K-12 Online Learning: A Survey of U.S. School District Administrators, predicts rapid growth in online education. The nationwide survey, conducted during the 2005-2006 academic year, finds that almost two out of three (63 %) school districts had one or more students enrolled in either a fully online or a blended course, which combines online learning with traditional face-to-face instruction. September 20, 2006 - New Orleans, LA -- Within days of Hurricane Katrina hitting the Gulf Coast and levies breaking in New Orleans, a group of colleges and universities across the country pulled together to offer free online courses to students displaced by the storm. The initiative, supported with a $1.1 million dollar grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, was called Sloan Semester and created a fully functional virtual institution in 21 days.
Today, forty experts from around the country -- including representatives from the Louisiana Board of Regents, many of the impacted institutions and leading experts in emergency preparedness in higher education -- are gathering for a working session in New Orleans. More details…
